Hi, I just left my old guild, need a new home, and I'm hoping to join Tyrs Paladium.  I'll answer the questions on the application, and then provide some other relevant information at the end.  Unfortunately, after 62 years, you tend to pick up some baggage, wanted or not!

[tl;dr - I'm 62, still a boy at heart, play nice, and need a new home.  heheh]

1) Are you at least 30 years of age (exceptions may be made for those younger, on a case by case basis, so just be honest!)

I think I have this one covered, in spades.

2) If you have a forum name on the official DDO forums, please provide it.

If I do, I don't remember it, I never post there.  I only play my main, so I guess just call me Tahni.  (Forum name might be Shanthe - maybe...)

3) How would you best describe your playstyle while in party with others?

I've partied so little in DDO, that's hard to say.  I've played this game for 2 years and only pugged once.  That experience left such a sour taste in my mouth I haven't done it again since.

I've been in two other guilds since I started playing - Oakenshield and Mages of Mordenkainen.  My playstyle when I've partied with them has mostly consisted of -  a)try to stay alive  and b)try to keep up.  I've mostly solo'd Tahni through 2 runs to 20, (and I'm planning to tr her again in the near future).

When given the chance, I'm definitely a team player, a zerg-o-phobe, and not a 'hero' or a piker.  I've only played one other mmo and my class in that game was more of the front lines tank (via pet).  My motto was "Nobody dies if I can help it, leave no one behind, if it's a complicated quest help people learn, and most of all Have Fun"!

4) Why would you like to join Tyrs Paladium?

Couple of reasons.  First, my last guild had been on a downhill slide for me since the former leader left the game.  I felt less and less at home, and finally today, after observing an incident in chat, I knew I had to leave.  So now I need a new home.

And secondly, I love monks.  Once I discovered them, it's all I've played.  And of course that led me to 'The Order of Syncletica'.  This guild is mentioned either in the 'monk bible' or blogs.  In any case, I found your website, read a bit about the guild, and it looks like my kind of place, very similar in fact to the guild I was in during my first mmo.

5) What are your expectations as a member of Tyrs Paladium?

A home while I play the game, with fun and understanding people who have gaming goals similar to mine.

6) Please tell us a little about yourself and your prior gaming experience.

I guess I'm a bit of a dichotomy.  I've been an outdoorsman all my life, made a living outdoors for over 35 years, and I love computer games.  Also play (that's a joke, btw) the guitar, and have done a fair bit of woodworking over the years.  I'm a tinkerer who's always looking to fix things - much to my wife's constant chagrin.  I'm the author of a bestselling book with a VERY small audience covering an old hobby of mine.  I also love cats, large and small - we have much in common.

Most of my gaming has been rpg, first person sneakers, and fps.  They are too numerous to list, but that pretty much covers the genre's.  I also enjoy permadeath in some of the offline games.  Depending on the game, it really changes how you play, I like it.

You would probably call me a twitch player.  I play DDO with keyboard/mouse in mouselook.  I cannot imagine playing this game with a controller.  My grandson brought his console on his last visit and we played some Tomb Raider.  Long story short - I will NEVER get a console unless both it and the games support a Keyboard/mouse.  (Old dog, new tricks syndrome?  Maybe, but still...)

7) Briefly describe your most memorable moment while gaming.

Beating the Original Deus Ex on the hardest difficulty setting as a pure melee, permadeath.  I refuse to admit how long that took.

8) How did you hear about Tyrs Paladium?

Already mentioned, through 'The Order of Syncletica'.

9) Do you agree to abide by our Guild Rules?

Definitely, looks like a great set of rules.  I may have (very) slight issues with the one about participation, depending upon how strictly it's interpreted.  See my comments below.

10) List any other significant information here to be considered.

Well, about that baggage I mentioned.  It's in the form of a health issue, specifically headaches.  I inherited them from my father's side of the family.  They're not migraines, but muscle tension, and over the years they've become more frequent, to the point that they are now 24/7.  Thankfully they vary in intensity.  The problems arise when they are really bad.  I don't cope well with pain, it makes me very anti-social (just ask my wife).  Not in a mean way, but in a 'turtle up - leave me alone until it passes' way.  Unfortunately, those bad ones can last 3-4 days.  I still like to play as it helps take my mind off the pain, but I also tend to do easy stuff like slayers, and I don't feel much like chatting or interacting when I feel like that.

This also affects when I play.  My sleep schedule is non-existent.  Basically, I sleep when the headaches let me, although I do tend towards being a bit of a night owl.  So even though I live in Arizona, don't expect me to be a typical 'US west coast' player.  You might find me online anytime of day or night.

Also, like Syncletica, I'm a guy who likes to play female toons.  If I am going to game for several hours or more at a time, I'd rather look at the opposite sex.  And, I've always liked heroines, strong female leads.  Several of my favorite books and movies have strong female leads, and I enjoy my attempts to bring them to life in the games I play.

One last thing, I can't walk and chew gum, neither can I quest and read chat very well.  If I ignore you, it's likely not on purpose.  Best way to reach me if I'm in a quest is via tell.  If I'm partied, I make every effort to keep an eye on chat, with limited success.  Skype was my savior in my previous mmo.

If you guys can look past my occasional 'mood swings', I think I'd be a good fit here.  I spoke with Mississippee today, and another member a couple days ago  (Have CRS and forgot your name, really sorry about that.) and both were super friendly and made me feel like I was already part of the family.  Here's hoping you'll make that a reality!

P.S.  You might be pleased (relieved) to know that I'm normally not as 'chatty' as this application might indicate.  Just wanted to be thorough.  I'm not going to take over your chat.

P.S.S.  to Mississippee - looong nap, really hope you didn't wait up for this.  Sorry about that.

I invited Tahni today.  He is an outstanding guy.  We are real happy to have you join us.  Look out for Willi, he's the oldest chap in the Shire, I believe he's nearing 289 years old, but a spring chicken he is!!!
