I've been wanting a Sorc to play in Mabar for awhile now but have not had time to play one. So I'm gonna take advantage of the Stone of Experience and Level 7 Vet status to make one real quick.

Unfortunately I have no experience with Arcanes and I stink at building. Can someone point me to a beginners build? All the builds I find are for TRs and use tomes.

Faded...playstyle has a lot to do with the build - and a lot of people go warforged sorcs to self-heal (I have one that is and one that isn't WF).

The other piece is which flavor do you want (there are 4 primary - earth, air, fire, and water). My WF sorc is earth spec'd while Ashye (Human) is water spec'd...supposedly there is a lot of fire resistance in higher level quests - and I haven't really tried an air spec yet. I have also seen a 'host' of sorcs go fire - then respec @14-16th level to another school (because fire works so well vs. undead in low/mid/desert quests).

Leaving for lunch, but I'll post 2 possible 28pt builds - one WF, one something else. If you happen to reply as to which school you are trending toward - I'll modify it based upon that school.

Thanks pms. That'll be very helpful.

This character will be mostly for tearing up Mabar, so the choices should be based on that.

I think Warforged will be important for the self-healing so I don't have to break to visit Delera or the bar.

I think cold spells should be avoided, since many of the undead there are immune/resistant to cold.

I'll think crowd control spells should be avoided, since many of the undead are immune/resistant to them.

If fire works good in the Desert against lvl 14-16 mobs, then it should work well in Mabar, since I'll be level 16 and spawning level appropriate undead.

I'm sure you have more experience with this than I do, so do what you think best. If I don't understand something about the build, I'll ask. Smile

Sorry I have not gotten with you as promised, I apologize.

I will be glad to share a 28pt version of my current 32pt Air Sorc Build with some commentary/justifications as well as some talking points for Earth or Ice Builds.

Blaack / Xire could have A LOT to add as well. He has done a few sorcs and kind of got me on the sorc bandwagon.

I will get something posted when I can and I apologize for any inconvenience.

The initial stats are based upon 2 major contributions:
A) it is a 28pt build, and
b) Charisma is negatively affected by warforge class (-2), so once it gets to 14, it costs 3 pts per stat increase (very expensive on 28pt build).

Therefore, Charisma stopped at 15, but Dex and Con were pushed until they began costing 2pts per stat.

I would hope that stat items and other items are used to increase stats and spell points. Also, the Feats chosen from levels 14-16 were more random and could be altered to individual taste.

This build creates a "Major" in Air Savant (electric spells do nice damage vs. undead) - but adds "Minors" in Repair (for Warforged Healing) and Fire (increased damage for fire spells). Unfortunately, many of the enhancements are inflexible as the points needed to attain each Savant status by its minimum level (6 and 12) pull a majority of the points...

The last thing I bothered with was the fact that the character needs to be usable from level 7-8 - then again at 16. A majority of the 1st and 2nd lvl spells are "buff" slots at higher levels - but are needed for damage spells at low/mid levels. the choices may seem funny, but they were made in an attempt of avoiding spell-change costs. I also know from experience that "haste" should always be one of the first lvl 3 spells taken - or groups get upset quickly...

Thanks for the build pms. I do have a few questions:

The dex is set at 14. Does this bring any benefits other than bonuses to ranged "to hit" and reflex saves? If not, might these points be better spent on intelligence to gain UMD?

You've taken the feats Mithral Body and Mithral Fluidity. I've never played Warforged so I looked these up. They give a bonus to AC and a 15% Spell Failure. Is AC important to a Sorc and if so, is a working AC achievable? It seems I would want to avoid spell failure.... Is there something I'm overlooking here?

I'm OK with spending plat to swap spells. I'm sure I'm gonna be spending a big chunk of change to equip this character anyway and a good spell selection is important. Anyway, I sold my winter kitty for an awfully unbelievable amount of plat so I'm pretty flush right now.

Sorcs, wizzies, clerics, and favored souls really don't employ umd...and a warforged sorc only gets "1" - that's it - "1" skill point to use at each level. Since umd requires 2 skill points/per umd skill point, you would not get a usable umd stat - it is much more important to keep concentration maxed.

Wizzies mainstay stats are intel, dex, and constitution to some extent
sorcs are charisma, dex, and con (which warforged get a con bonus - starting at 10).

welcome to change it - just think intel and wisdom are kind of wasted in those spots when working with 28pts

as far as the body armor - that was a throw in for self reliance...the %penalty is much lower for mithral than adamantine and the "warforged inscribed armor" enhancement reduces the penalty. As I looked through the feat options available it just seemed a good choice, but there are other options...could exchange that feat and corresponding enhancements to beef up spell penetration and / or grab Greater Spell Focus: Evocation.

Mostly tweaks is all - and a place to start...there isn't a lot of play available with savant 1 and II requirements being so heavy (and this particular build actually has you ready for savant III at level 18).

have fun with it...questions, criticisms, or different options are fine (keep you thinking and wondering about possible changes).
